Wood-frame construction combines dimension lumber or engineered wood products and structural wood panel sheathing to make wall, floor and roof assemblies that are large, strong and fast to build. The wall, floor and roof assemblies are tough, easy to connect and easy to insulate. Wood-frame construction is a proven building technology that has been applied millions of times in Canada and the United States. In fact, about a million new wood houses are built every year in North America.

Floor Framing

The main floor in wood-frame buildings usually consists of wood joists, wood I-joists, or parallel chord trusses supported by the foundation walls at the perimeter of the building and by beams and columns in the interior (See Diagram). Loadbearing stud walls, as well as masonry or concrete walls, may also be used to support floor joists within the interior of the building.
